Vírusové ochorenia:
- Parvoviróza: vysoko nákazlivá choroba postihujúca celý organizmus, najviac tráviacie ústrojenstvo. Zvracanie s prímesou kvy, typická hnačka, výrazné odvodnenie, ktoré môže vyústiť v šok organizmu. Parvoviróza je postrachom chovateľov príznakom je taktiež apatia a nechutenstvo, s celkovými psychyckými príznakmi. Percento úhynu mladších zvierat je vysoké.
- Psinka: je najznámejšie vírusové ochorenie psov, ktoré sa šíri kvapôčkovou infekciou. Najviac postihuje šteňatá vo veku 3-6 mesiacov. Jej priebeh je pomalší než u parvovirózy. Má štádiá: postihnutie dýchacích ciest, postihnutie organizmu, postihnutie nervovej sústavy.
- Koronaviróza, Rotaviróza: má podobný priebeh ako parvoviróza, ale z menším úhynom. Prízakom, ktorý je najcharakteristickejší je kašovitá stolica s prímesou krvy.
- Psinkový kašel: je vysoko nákazlivé akútne ochorenie dýchacích ciest s typickými záchvatmi kašla. Spôsobuje ho vírus parainfluenzy. Záchvaty sú lahšieho charakteru a odoznejú po cca 10 dňoch.
Infekčný hepatitis: je infekčné ochorenie "psinkového komplexu". Postihuje ladviny aj črevá a niekedy sa objavuje jeho očná forma.
- Besnota: je akútne vírusové ochorenie postihujúce celý organizmus aj nervový systém. Je prenosné na človeka. Besnota nie je liečiteľná a vždy končí úhynom chorého jedinca. Prejavy sú výrazné - slinenie, agresivita alebo plachosť, kŕče, ochrnutie a úhyn.
Bakteriálne ochorenia:
Medzi najčastejšie sa vyskytujúce, patrí koliková infekcia, leptospiróza, borelióza a tetanus. Chovatelia často podceňujú tento druh ochorenia, napriek tomu že spôsobujú mnohokrát zlyhanie dôležitých častí organizmu, resp. ich poškodenie.
Hubové a plesňové ochrenia:
Plesne a huby - spôsobujú veľmi časté ochorenia kože, či už povrchové, alebo postihujú vnútorné orgány aj celý organizmus. Ochorenie je prenosné nielen na zvieratá, ale aj na ľudí, predovšetkým na deti. Kožné zmeny sa najčastejšie objavujú v srsti na hlave, krku a končatinách. Srsť na postihnutom mieste vypadáva, alebo sa láme. Liečba ja náročná, zdĺhavá a musí byť odborná. Lieky majú aj vedľajšie účinky.
